My name is Rowan Wakeford and I was born in South Africa little over 32 years ago. I moved to London 9 years ago to find work and start a career. Now I'm travelling the world and I've been on the road for 365 days and counting.
Since then I have travelled far enough to have gone around the world 3 times and visited 20 countries. I have driven a rickshaw across India. Survived an earthquake in Nepal. Taken trains from St Petersburg to Shanghai. Met an amazing girl, convinced her to leave her job and have been travelling with her for the past 3 months.
I haven't always lived like this, and while my story isn't unique, it is about me which makes it of particular interest (to me at least)...
My Journey
While sitting in a plush corporate meeting room on the top floor of a modern London office building, I sipped my 4th cup of coffee for the morning. This particular morning, which was not unlike many others, was devoted to reviewing the endless list of projects which made up the £23 million budget for the year. Somewhere between projects I had a dawning realisation that this was not the sum purpose of my life. I hadn't seen my friends in months and I basically lived at work.
On a whim I signed up for Exploring Mindset and 3 months later I was sitting on a boat in the Caribbean talking about happiness and I realised that even though I'd lived a privileged life, moved to London and started a successful career. I wasn't happy. I woke up each morning thinking about all the things I had to do. Not all the things I could do. I focused on how to make rich people richer and not how I could make those around me happier.
On this boat, surrounded by amazing people, I started a journey. I knew that something in me had changed. A realisation that my life was in my control and I could make it what I wanted it to be. I started a journey that would ultimately lead to me quitting my high paid job, packing my life into a bag, getting on an airplane and actively seeking adventure.
This journey has taken me all over the world, I've met some amazing people, found an amazing girl and fostered new passions. And the best is yet to come.
I have no idea where this journey will take me, but I take each step excitedly, embracing what the future may hold.
